The Embassy of Israel in Ukraine held a ceremony to award a small grant to Natalia Galitskaya-Pasichnyk, a graduate of the MASHAV courses “Trauma, Stress Resilience and Psychological Support in Crisis Situations,” which took place in Israel in November 2022.
During the event, Ambassador Michael Brodsky handed over all the necessary equipment purchased for the project initiated by Natalia, and told about it on August 8, 2024 on FB..
Natalia actively uses the knowledge, methods and experience she gained in Israel in her daily work. In particular, this contributed to the creation of a project aimed at helping those who returned from the battlefield, as well as their family members. The project provides additional treatment that is flexible and innovative, covering various aspects of life in society and social situations.
The goal of such events is to make the return of veterans to civilian life more accessible and supportive.
For those who are not familiar with what equipment we are talking about, here are some of the main types:
- Diagnostic equipment:
- Polygraphs and Biofeedback: Devices that measure the body's physiological responses, such as heart rate, breathing, and sweating. This data is used to assess a patient's stress or anxiety levels.

- Psychometric tests: Software and tests for assessing cognitive abilities, personality, depression and anxiety levels.
- Therapeutic equipment:
- Sensory rooms: Spaces with a variety of light, sound and tactile stimuli to create a safe and calming environment, especially useful for children and people with autism.
- Medical chairs and couches: Comfortable chairs and couches for psychotherapeutic sessions.
- Virtual Reality (VR) Systems: Used for virtual exposure therapy to help patients cope with phobias and post-traumatic stress.
- Software and mobile applications:
- Meditation and Relaxation Apps: Stress and anxiety management apps that offer meditation and breathing exercises.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) programs: Software that helps patients work on thoughts and behaviors by providing structured tasks and exercises.
- Telemedicine platforms: Online consultation and psychotherapy services that provide access to psychological help at a distance.

MASHAV (Israel's International Agency for Cooperation and Development) is an organization established by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1958 to provide international humanitarian aid and development assistance. MASHAV's primary missions include providing technical assistance and expertise to other countries in areas such as agriculture, health, education, and resource management.
How MASHAV works in Ukraine:
- Training and knowledge sharing: MASHAV organizes trainings and courses for specialists from Ukraine. These educational programs cover various fields and help Ukrainian professionals master new methods and approaches that they can apply in their work at home.
- Project support: The organization finances and supports projects aimed at improving living conditions in Ukraine. These may be projects in the fields of health care, education, agriculture and other areas. Grants and equipment provided through MASHAV are used to implement social and humanitarian initiatives.
- Cooperation with local organizations: MASHAV works in partnership with Ukrainian public and private organizations, as well as NGOs, to ensure the best results and sustainable development. Cooperation includes technology transfer, organization of seminars and provision of consulting services.
- Technical assistance and resources: MASHAV provides technical assistance and resources to address specific problems in Ukraine. This may include the supply of medical equipment, educational materials, or consulting services to improve infrastructure and social programs.
Thus, MASHAV plays an important role in supporting and developing Ukraine, providing the necessary resources and knowledge to solve urgent problems and improve the quality of life.
Cooperation between Israel and Ukraine has deep historical roots and has been going on for several decades. Historically, both countries are linked by cultural and historical ties that began to develop when Ukraine gained independence in 1991. During the Soviet era, the Jewish diaspora in Ukraine played an important role in the Jewish cultural and social movement, which created the basis for future cooperation.
After Ukraine gained independence, Israel became one of the first countries to recognize its statehood and established diplomatic relations. Since then, cooperation between the two countries has developed in various areas, including trade, education, culture and, of course, humanitarian aid.
The international agency MASHAV, operating in Ukraine, continues this tradition by providing technical assistance and training Ukrainian specialists in a field in which Israel has extensive experience. These efforts not only contribute to the improvement of social and economic conditions in Ukraine, but also strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. Historical cooperation and mutual interests contribute to the deepening of ties, creating a solid foundation for further development and exchange of knowledge and experience.
