The Lebanese army cannot resist Hezbollah due to a lack of weapons and resources – WSJ.

At an international conference in Paris, European leaders supported and highlighted the Lebanese armed forces as a key element to stabilize the country. Some $200 million in pledges have been pledged, including aid from the United States, France and Germany, The Wall Street Journal reported.

French President Emmanuel Macron noted that the Lebanese army plays a more important role today than ever.

However, Lebanon's army, despite $3 billion in US funding since 2006, has not fully lived up to expectations. Insufficiently equipped to secure borders and counter Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed group fighting Israel.

The forces of the Lebanese Army are significantly inferior to Hezbollah in terms of numbers and weapons. There are insufficient modern defense systems, only about five combat aircraft and limited missile capabilities, while Hezbollah possesses tens of thousands of missiles and other weapons.

Lebanese affairs expert and lecturer in politics at Cardiff University, Amal Sad, noted that the Lebanese army is one of the weakest in the Middle East, which was one of the reasons for the rise of Hezbollah in the 1980s.
