The Prime Minister's Office has denied rumors of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to allow polio vaccinations, calling the reports false. The office said Israel would only provide a humanitarian corridor for medical workers and set up safe zones for vaccinations for a few hours. This is being done to prevent the spread of polio in the region and protect the population.
Earlier, the World Health Organization announced plans to vaccinate 640,000 children in Gaza, aged 10 and under, twice. The campaign was due to begin on Sunday, and Israel was reported to have agreed to a series of three-day humanitarian pauses to carry it out. Gaza Deputy Health Minister Yousef Abu al-Rish insisted that a complete ceasefire was needed for the vaccination campaign to be successful.
However, the IDF confirmed that the vaccinations will be carried out in coordination with the Israeli military and the Office of the Government Coordinator in the Territories, ensuring safe access to medical centers for the Palestinian population.
