The UN agency for Palestine refugees has stopped delivering aid through the main Kerem Shalom cargo crossing into the Gaza Strip due to a threat from armed gangs robbing convoys. This became known on Sunday, reports UNN with reference to The Associated Press. The agency accused Israel of breaking down law and order, which could worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, especially as winter sets in. Experts have already warned of a possible famine in the region, which Israeli forces have isolated since early October.

Kerem Shalom is the only crossing point between Israel and the Gaza Strip for the delivery of aid. In the last month, almost two-thirds of all humanitarian aid to Gaza has flowed through it.

The UN agency's leadership blamed Israel for disrupting the humanitarian operation in the Gaza Strip, pointing to political decisions to limit aid and attacks on Hamas-run police. Israel has not commented on the decision, saying it allows enough aid in the region and accusing UN agencies of unreliability.
