Former US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, August 14. They discussed the hostage-release agreement and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. According to Axios, Trump wanted to encourage Netanyahu to accept the agreement, although it is unclear exactly what was said during the call.

Following Netanyahu's visit to the US late last month, where he met with Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Trump, Egypt, the US and Qatar have scheduled a new round of ceasefire talks in Gaza for Thursday, August 15. Biden proposed a ceasefire in a message on May 31, and the parties have since tried to reach an agreement on the release of hostages in exchange for a ceasefire, but have encountered obstacles.
