Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of various Israeli cities on the evening of November 5 after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to fire Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
According to The Times of Israel, protests continue in Haifa, Netanya, Be'er Sheva and at intersections across the country, in addition to large demonstrations in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Protests are also taking place in Nahariya and other communities in northern Israel, despite military instructions to limit mass gatherings amid constant rocket attacks from Lebanon.
Earlier on November 5, Netanyahu, declaring a “crisis of confidence” in relations with Gallant, appointed Israeli Foreign Minister Katz as the new defense minister, and Gideon Saar became the new foreign minister.
Gallant, reacting to the decision, wrote on social media X that Israel's security “has been and will always remain the mission” of his life.
In March 2023, Netanyahu had already decided to fire Gallant. It came after Gallant called on Israel's leader to stop planned judicial reforms that have divided the country and caused discontent among the military. However, the decision to resign Gallant caused protests against the Israeli Prime Minister, and Netanyahu canceled it.
