Borrell: All EU countries must comply with ICC order on Netanyahu

In fact, the court's decision regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant is “binding” for EU countries, Borrell confirmed. The head of EU diplomacy stressed that “this decision is not political, and that the decisions of the courts must be respected and implemented.”

EU countries have an obligation to follow the order of the International Criminal Court to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell noted during his visit to Jordan, this decision is not simply a matter of politics.

“This is not a political decision, this is a decision of an international court and court decisions must be respected and implemented,” he emphasized.

According to him, the court's order regarding Netanyahu and Galant is “binding” for EU countries, since they are members of the ICC.

The head of EU diplomacy also expressed the opinion that the “tragedy in the Gaza Strip” must be stopped and the international community should act in an “apocalyptic situation.”

In May of this year, 2024, when ICC prosecutor Karim Khan asked the Pre-Trial Chamber to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Galant, as well as three Hamas leaders, on war crimes charges.
