So far, the prime minister has not responded to the defense minister’s demand that the issues of negotiations with Hamas be brought before the entire cabinet. Netanyahu has also accused his negotiators of instability and limited their power to make concessions. Meanwhile, the military does not see the need for the army’s presence in the “Philadelphia Corridor” as a major security issue.
The situation is complicated by Netanyahu's demand to establish a mechanism to prevent armed groups from returning to the northern Gaza Strip, which is becoming one of the main problems in the negotiations with Hamas. Despite some optimism after the last summit, the talks continue to face serious obstacles.
