French President Emmanuel Macron called for an end to the supply of weapons to Israel for use in Gaza. The priority, he said, is to return to a political solution and stop the supply of weapons for military operations.
Macron noted that France does not supply weapons, unlike the United States, which supplies Israel with about $3 billion worth of weapons annually. In September, Britain also said it would suspend some arms transfers due to the risk of violating international law.
Macron expressed “concern” about the ongoing conflict in Gaza, calling it a “mistake” and citing a threat to Israel's security. He stressed the importance of preventing an escalation of tensions in Lebanon, noting that “Lebanon must not become the new Gaza.”
Macron noted that 88 member states of the International Organization of Francophonie called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon at a summit in Paris.
The President also announced a planned international conference in October in support of Lebanon. He recalled that Lebanon is a member of the International Organization of Francophonie.
