On April 2, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha had a phone conversation with the head of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar. According to Ukrainian and Israeli sources, the parties discussed the situation on the Ukrainian front, the situation in the Middle East, further contacts between Kyiv and Jerusalem, as well as security issues related to Iran.

Sybiha reported that he congratulated Sa’ar on the beginning of Passover, informed him about the situation on the battlefield and how Ukraine endured the harsh winter.

He also reminded about the anniversary of Bucha and emphasized the importance of accountability for Russian crimes. Separately, the Ukrainian minister thanked Israel for its support, including the generators that helped Ukrainians get through the winter period.

According to Sybiha, the ministers discussed further strengthening of cooperation between the two countries. His statement reads: “We coordinated further contacts at different levels.” In the same publication, he emphasized that Ukraine “condemns Iran’s destabilizing actions” and supports efforts to counter threats from the Iranian regime.

The topic of generators in this conversation was not accidental.

Back on February 24, it became known that Israel would transfer 117 mobile generators to the communities of the Kyiv region. The Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine, Michael Brodsky, reported that the decision was announced after contacts at the level of Israeli leadership, and the very next day Sybiha publicly thanked Sa’ar for this assistance. The Times of Israel quoted the Ukrainian minister about the 117 mobile generators that were to be transferred to the Kyiv region.

The conversation took place against the backdrop of noticeable warming of Israeli-Ukrainian contacts. On February 24, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine: 107 countries voted in favor, 12 against, and 51 abstained. Reuters noted that Israel supported the document, while the US abstained. After this, Sybiha separately thanked Sa’ar for Israel’s position.

The Iranian topic in the dialogue between Kyiv and Jerusalem is also not new. Back in July 2025, Israel and Ukraine announced the launch of a separate strategic dialogue on the Iranian threat. At that time, Sa’ar stated that Iran “threatened Ukraine,” and actions against its weapons and technologies are important not only for Israel but also for European security. The current conversation on April 2 shows that this track remains active even after the winter of 2025–2026.
