Ukrainian Ambassador Yevhen Korniychuk held a working meeting with Israeli Minister of Religious Affairs Michael Malkieli, reports July 31, 2024 Embassy of Ukraine in Israel.

During the meeting, the development of bilateral Ukrainian-Israeli relations, political dialogue between the countries, and ways of interaction at the interregional level were discussed, in particular during the celebration of the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah in Uman this year.

The negative impact on bilateral Israeli-Ukrainian relations due to the Israeli side's decision to introduce an electronic visa (ETA-IL) for entry of Ukrainian citizens was discussed. At the same time, the parties welcomed the decision to postpone the start of this visa for five months (until 01.01.2025) as a first step towards resolving this issue.

The future participation of the Israeli side in the anniversary of the Babi Yar tragedy victims, which will take place on September 29 in Kyiv, was also discussed.

During the meeting, the parties agreed that the Ukrainian and Israeli peoples, especially in these difficult times of war in both Ukraine and Israel, understand and support each other like no one else.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine and Kyiv, Moshe Azman. Important issues concerning cooperation between our countries in the sphere of religion and cultural exchange were discussed.

According to Moshe Azman, he is confident that this dialogue will contribute to strengthening partnership relations and will open up new opportunities for cooperation. In a conversation with Minister Malkieli and Ambassador Korniychuk, the importance of mutual understanding and support between our peoples was emphasized. Azman noted: “Together we can achieve great results, preserving our traditions and values, and most importantly – together to Victory over evil!”

This meeting is important because it shows the desire of both sides to strengthen their relations and cooperation despite the current difficulties. Discussing issues such as the introduction of an electronic visa and participation in commemorative events demonstrates a willingness to engage in dialogue and find solutions that will strengthen the ties between peoples.
